Sewerby prove too strong for Brid 2nds

ONLY one match survived the rain last weekend in division A.

Hosts Sewerby 2nds posted 141-8, with Chris Briggs reaching 28, Rob Atkin smacking 38 and Shaun Acton chipping in with a useful knock of 24 against neighbours Bridlington 2nds.

Veteran Peter Bowtell claimed 5-28 from 17 overs for the visitors.

In reply, Brid’s dreadful form continued as they were shot out for 74, Rob Middlewood was the only visiting batsman to shine with a defiant 24.

Dominic Warters snapped up fine figures of 4-39 from 18 overs for the home side and stalwart pace bowler Mark Pallister secured an excellent 5-16 from 13 overs.

The Kirkbymoorside v Sherburn, Snainton v Brompton, Wold Newton v Cloughton and Wykeham v Nawton Grange matches were all abandoned due to the wet weather that has wrecked the season so far.

It was a complete whitewash in division B as this frustrating campaign will reach the half-way point this weekend.

The Cayton 2nds v Settrington, Grindale v Staxton 2nds, Ryedale v Lockton, Scalby v Forge Valley 2nds fixtures were all abandoned

In division C’s only match, Sam Collin scored 45 for Wykeham 2nds against Seamer 2nds.

But the visitors were all out for 148 as experienced seam bowler Marc Tyson claimed 5-44 for the home team.

Replying Seamer edged to victory by three wickets after good knocks from seasoned campaigner Dave Plowes, 49, Jon Broadhead, 28, and teenager Connor Myrescough, 25.

Cloughton 2nds v Thornton Dale, Ganton v Hospitals, Scarborough 3rds v Scalby 2nds, Staithes 2nds v Duncombe Park 2nds were all abandoned.
