Scarborough Cricket Club lost out by four wickets in the Yorkshrie League opener at home to Doncaster Town.
Andrew Simpson’s men compiled a useful total of 222-9 from their 55 overs, but Doncaster knocked off these runs with just eight balls remaining.
Simpson led by example after he won the toss, hitting a composed 69, which was added to by Chris Grey’s 73 andrespective scores of 21 and 19 from youngsters James Pick and Jonathan Read.
Former Yorkshire batsman Simon Widdup then took control for Doncaster as he played his way to 103 not out from 159 balls.
That innings just proved to be too much for Scarborough, edging Doncaster over the finishing line.
Scarborough’s new overseas Carl Joyce kept Doncaster on their toes, the all-rounder taking 2-55 from his 13 overs.
