YORK LEAGUE: Roberts stars as Scarboro’ boost title bid

Charlie Roberts shone with bat and ball as Scarborough 2nds earned a home winning draw against York 4ths to boost their York League Division Three South title bid.

Roberts top scored with 74 as the hosts declared on 255-5 from 41 overs, Kieran Howard also shining with an unbeaten 65, while Josh Mainprize, 48, and Harrison Wood, 42, also impresssed.

All-rounder Roberts then snapped up 3-28 as the visitors hung on with 139-7 from their 49 overs, T Backhouse hitting 43 and T Wright 40.

With leaders Cottingham edging to three-wicket win against Yapham, Scarborough remain in second spot, but they are only six points adrift so the race for the title looks set to go down to the wire.

Scarborough 2nds travel to Fenner 2nds on Saturday and then play host to Carlton Towers on Bank Holiday Monday.

Another five-wicket haul by Scarborough paceman Jack Holt helped his side to a four-wicket win at York 2nds to keep them in premier division title contention.

The hosts were skittled for only 105, Holt bagging 5-30 and Ryan Gibson 3-34.

Scarborough lost six wickets on their way to victory, and were thankful for a solid 27 by skipper Neil Elvidge.

Elvidge’s team are at home to third-from-bottom Heworth on Saturday and then hit the road to second-placed Woodhouse Grange on Monday.

The division one match between Whitkirk and Flixton was brought to a premature end by the weather the home side having reached 60-3 in reply to the visitors 149 all out.

Ryan Wharton had hit 38 and Anthony Stones 29 for Flixton.

The village club have a home double-header over the Bank Holiday weekend, with Beverley the visitors on Saturday and Sewerby heading north on Monday.
