Scarborough finished their season on a winning note, defeating Clifton Alliance by 34 runs in a rain-affected Yorkshire Premier League North clash at North Marine Road.
The hosts batted first and were in trouble at 95-5 until a sixth-wicket stand of 74 between former skipper Darren Harland (69) and Bradley Scott (34) helped steer them to 183-5 from their 42 overs.
Oliver Stephenson (24) and Ben Elvidge (26) had earlier made decent starts against the visitors, who were battling to stay up.
Alliance, in a similar fashion to Scarborough, slipped to 82-5 in reply, but Hull’s defeat by five wickets to Acomb threw Clifton Alliance a lifeline as they knew reaching three quarters of their target of 184 with wickets in hand by the close would give them two points which would be enough to climb out of the bottom two.
They did so thanks to Greg Drewery (44) and Paul Walton (32) reaching 149-7 when play eventually ended at 7.45pm.
