Exley double helps Pier to victory

West Pier kept their Scarborough & District League Division One title hopes alive with an edgy 4-1 win against Hunmanby United.

It was United who grabbed the lead with former Pier man Darren Crawford converting from the spot after a rash Andy Sheader challenge.

Martin Cooper drilled home from the edge of the box to level the scores.

After the break Pier moved clear of their opponents, with Neil Thomas finishing well when he latched onto a long ball.

Then Sean Exley's double finished the job.

Liam Mancrief caught the eye for Pier at full-back, while the whole Hunmanby team dug in for a solid performance.

Newlands were too strong for a gritty Flamborough as they collected an 7-0 win.

Joe Hakings' side were 3-0 up at the break thanks to goals from Luke Delve, Ben Luntley and Aidan Thomas.

After the interval, wide-man Thomas completed his hat-trick, with Delve and veteran Steve Roberts wrapping up the scoring.

Scarborough Athletic first-team coach Roberts hit the goal of the game, bending home into the top corner.

In Division Two, Itis Itis Rovers bagged a 2-0 win at Cayton Corinthians to consolidate top spot.

Boss Mikey Barker opened the scoring for Rovers, with Callum Myers making sure.

Sam Pickard was the top man for the victors in the centre of midfield.

Scalby crept past Snainton with a 2-1 victory to keep them right in the promotion shake-up.

Rob Speight put Scalby a goal to the good and Craig Rackham made it two inside 30 minutes.

Jack Heelas trimmed the lead back to one from the spot after Martin Kelly had been felled.

Chris Hannam was man of the match for the winners, while Andy Worgan shone in defence for Snainton.

Ayton maintained their fine form with a 2-0 win against Falsgrave.

James Cooke tapped their first of the evening after 10 minutes and Tommy Day's penalty made it 2-0 on the hour.

The Reserve Division saw Edgehill 3rds run out 6-5 winners in a thriller against Newlands Reserves.

Shaun Dodson struck three for Edgehill, with Kyle O'Toole collecting two and impressive target man Steve Clegg bagging the winner.

Dave Young bagged four in Newlands colours and Lee McLaughlin scored the other.

Seamer Reserves toppled Scalby Reserves in a 4-0 success.

Connor Myerscough, Gaz Walters, Danny Kelly and Luke Purvis all hit the target for Seamer.

Jake Moore stood out in defence for Seamer, with Dave Oxley and young Chris Wells pulling a few strings in midfield for Scalby.
