Filey Fishing Festival off to a flying start

The 92nd annual Filey Fishing Festival got off to a great start on Saturday with an improved entry in the first event, for the Harry Jarman Bowl.

There were 82 entries for the shore match, which is 20 more than last year’s equivalent fixture, so the signs are promising for a popular festival this time around.

Redcar’s Mark Smith won the greatest weight of fish match with a bag of 19lb 5oz 1drm, with Lebberston’s Phil Arliss second on 17-0-1 and Scarborough’s Steve Hoyle in third with 14-2-6.

Matty Burton won the juvenile class with 2-11-9, Richard Haxby the Filey Brigg Angling Society section - and the Superpool - with 6-13-3 and Peter Bayes the over-60 category with 9-7-1.
