Angel travel to Eastfield Athletic this week and Jones is confident his side can mount a challenge for the title.

“We played against Andy Thorpe’s team in a cup competition last year and he always has them organised and up for the game, so we know we need to be at our best to get a result this weekend,” said Jones.

“We have signed a few lads this summer. Ben David and Dom Richardson are yet to make their debuts, but add that to the returning Kurtis Henderson who is like a new signing for us again.

“The pandemic cutting last season short it was a bit of a blessing in disguise for us.

“We were struggling for numbers and with expecting my first child, I was happy for it to end to be honest.

“With the lack of activity over the summer though the lads have really got a lot more interest this year and I feel that with the players we have, we are getting back to full strength again.

“We are a tight knit group who have been playing together for five years now so we feel that enjoying our football is helping us get results on the pitch also.”

There are four other fixtures this weekend in the Scarborough Sunday League.

Newlands will be keen to maintain their form when they host Eastfield United, Cayton Corinthians welcome Valley, Fylingdales meet Eastfield United and Trafalgar play Saints.
