As well as running holiday soccer schools, Barber is now holding development classes and elite teaching for youngsters across the area.

This allows the perfect progression for players to move through towards the academy set-ups of Football League clubs.

To boost the quality of these sessions, Barber has recruited the experience of former Scarborough FC captain Denny Ingram and ex-Leeds United striker Tony Hackworth, who is currently manager of Pickering Town.

Barber said: “It is all about total player development.

“We are giving players the whole package, which gives them the chance to progress towards academies.

“Having Denny and Tony on board is amazing for us because the experience they have in the game is priceless.

“Denny has been doing a lot of sessions for us recently and when he talks you can hear a pin drop.”

The development classes, which are open for anyone, take place at Pindar on Monday nights. For three to six-year-olds from 5pm to 6pm and then for children of 10 to 12 from 6pm until 7pm.

There is also a development class for children in years two, three and four at Scarborough Sixth Form on Thursday from 5.30pm.

The elite sessions are held on Tuesdays for years one and two at Hull University from 5.30pm.

For children in years three, four, five and six, the sessions take place on Friday from 6pm.

Barber added: “We encourage players to come down to the development sessions, but anyone can step up to the elite coaching if they impress.

“The opportunity is there, especially as we have coaches with the right qualifications to get them there.”
