BIG PREVIEW: Ayton and Cayton shape up for relegation showdown

Ayton player-boss Mark Plumpton, who is also the chairman of the league, has a full squad to choose from for the clash at Wilson's Lane.

"It looks like we will have everyone available for the Cayton game, and I am looking forward to the game as we always seem to have good games against them.

"There should be a bit of an extra edge as Tyson Stubbings, who plays on the left wing for us left us earlier this season to join Cayton but returned after just two games so I am sure he will receive some tasty challenges on Sunday morning."

Plumpton's team are third-from-bottom in the table having beaten Heslerton and drawn with Fylingdales in the past few weeks, with Cayton also struggling with only one draw in the league, but two cup wins in as many weeks may have buoyed Damon Cook's Cayton side.

The Ayton chief added: "I think the two key players for us on Sunday will be Liam Fraser, who plays in a free role for us, and who turns out for Bridlington Town Reserves on a Saturday, and Danny Appleby, who has done really well for us this season and put in some good performances.

"When I took over Ayton a few years back I decided to start from scratch with young players and build the team in that way, and despite a lot of dissenting voices among the local football community we are starting to get there now."

Plumpton is wary of the threat that Cayton pose on Sunday, saying: "Harry Holden and Danny Collins have to be their danger men, they are both very good players. Both sides need the points on Sunday so it should make for a good game."

Cayton's player-manager Damon Cook agrees with Plumpton about the sides being well-match for the crunch clash.

He said: "We're expecting a good battle and a close game with Ayton, as we know that Mark's sides are always well-organised and they like to keep the ball down and play with a high tempo.

"We feel we have enough to go and win the game though with Harry Holden, Jake McAleese and Harry Sleep in the side, Jake being one of the best players technically at the club, he can literally play in any position on the park and do you a job.

"Any defence with Harry Holden in it is a solid defence and lately he's been chipping in at the other end of the pitch too with his goals and with Harry Sleep fit, if he has his day he can win you a game single-handedly, his pace and strength is frightening at times."

Cook added: "We know their star players in Tyson Stubbings, Kieran Friett, Danny Appleby and Ross Gill because we spent all summer trying to get the four of them to come to Cayton on both Saturdays and Sundays, unfortunately we only succeeded in getting Ross Gill who has done a great job for our Saturday team.

"Our season started off a bit slow and we were a little bit disheartened after winning the Goalsports Trophy last year and gaining promotion we thought we could have a right go at it in Division One but unfortunately, like it seems to be the case for a lot of teams lately we struggled to get a side together and lost a few games early on.

"But now we've started to get our team back from injuries etc we've managed to get three wins in a row, all with very good performances, so going into this we're full of confidence we can make it four in a row."
