Ryan Blott is backing Scarborough Athletic to deliver a performance for the fans in tomorrow night’s Doodson Sports Trophy final.
Boro will do battle with Marine in the game which takes place at Farsley Celtic’s Throstle’s Nest, 8pm kick-off.
Blott, who has scored half of his 12 goals this season in the Doodson Sports Trophy, understands the pain of the club’s fans after what has been a dismal Evo-Stik North campaign, but he sees the final as a chance to give a little bit back to the supporters.
“We haven’t been good enough in the league this season and we especially haven’t been good enough since we realised that we were safe from relegation,” he said.
“This has probably been the worst season since I have been involved with either Scarborough Athletic or Scarborough FC.
“In this cup competition we have played with a lot more freedom though, I don’t know why, but we are just a different team.
“We have beaten sides like Whitby and Ilkeston from the league above, which is an excellent achievement.
“I am feeling confident going into the game, but it depends which team turns up on the night.”
Having been a mainstay in Scarborough squads since the days of the Conference, Blott is well aware of how much impact the town’s travelling fans can make.
He added: “They make a massive difference. You can’t see Marine bringing that many, so if our fans turn out in force it will be like a home game for us.
“When Scarborough fans turn out in force they really lift you.
“We owe them a performance and a bit of payback for a bad season and this is the perfect opportunity.
“Hopefully we can get that result, give them a good night and leave them looking forward to next season.”
