Blott back with a bang as he fires a reminder to bosses

Blott, who has struck 223 goals since joining the club in 2007, struck twice as Boro edged Whitby Town out of the Integro Doodson Trophy on penalties.

The goals also served as a reminder to joint-bosses Paul Foot and Bryan Hughes, who have been shaking up their strikeforce in recent months.

Blott said: “That’s what I do, I’ve always built my career around putting the ball in the net and it is nice to be back doing that. Hopefully I’ll continue doing that for the rest of the season.

“Scoring is the best feeling you can have on a football pitch, that is what every striker needs to do.

“As a group of four we haven’t been hitting the back of the net.

“When your chances come you have to take them because otherwise somebody else will come in.

“We’ve had 10 games when we weren’t ourselves. We didn’t stick to the basics or do the right things.

“We’ve had chats after training and worked hard and now we’ve started an unbeaten run.

“It is difficult when you are in and out of the team, but when you are going through a bad run, the management have got to try new things.

“I’ve understood that, but I want to play. I’ve told Paul and Bryan that I want to play.

“I just have to do it when I’m given the opportunity.

Foot added: “Ryan came in and played four or five games before we brought him out at Glossop for Alex Peterson’s workrate.

“Maybe we should have started him against New Mills, I question myself about that.

“I think we have both come a full circle this season. We’ve had our arguments, we’ve come together and we’ve chatted a lot.

“He proved to us against Whitby how good his attitude is.

“He came in, played 90 minutes scored two goals and he deserves the credit for that.”
