Blott fired Boro’s second in their 2-0 Doodson League Cup success against Ossett Albion at Queensgate on Tuesday night and is happy to be helping the side following a poor run of form.

He said: “I’m on a bit of a run now, but like I’ve said before that’s my job and that’s what I’m paid to do, so when I’m not scoring goals I don’t feel like I’m doing my job.

“Recently it’s been going well for me and I hope that continues.”

Blott is hoping that Tuesday’s cup win can provide them with the platform to climb up the Evo-Stik Division One North table, starting with their home clash against Burscough on Saturday.

“We know we’ve been on a bad run of form but we’re not a bad side.

“We’ve got the players in the changing room to turn it around and I’m sure we’ll do that.

“We haven’t been performing to the level we’re capable of recently and have been letting in some sloppy goals, but hopefully this clean sheet will be a sign of things to come for us as we’ll always score goals at the other end.”

Another man who has profited from an injection of confidence in recent weeks is Cayton defender Harry Holden, who is loving life in the first team set-up after finding himself thrusted into the spotlight in the absence of Nathan Peat.

Holden said: “The clean-sheet against Ossett will give us confidence.

“The progression up from the under-21s is hard but the lads have been great and I think have fitted in well.”

Holden was delighted with the impact made by keeper Patrick Weaver, who made his debut in the cup win after joining from Scunthorpe United.

“It gives the whole defence confidence having a keeper like him behind you,” Holden added.
