Boro book spot in NRCFA Senior Cup semi-finals

Scarborough Athletic secured their places in the semi-finals of the NRCFA Senior Cup with a 3-0 home win against Redcar Athletic.

Boro boss Darren Kelly picked a strong side and the hosts started on the front foot.

The ball was in the back of the net in the second minute but James Walshaw was caught offside.

In the 12th minute the Betvictor Northern Premier outfit took the lead courtesy of Ryan Watson who pulled the trigger from 30 yards.

On-loan Kieran Glynn went close in the 19th minute but he saw his shot brilliantly blocked as it looked to be going in the bottom corner.

The lead was doubled in the 25th minute as Watson’s free-kick was parried into the path of Walshaw, and the striker bundled home to extend his side's lead.

In the dying stages of the first half, Glynn went close but he scuffed his shot wide of the Redcar goal.

The visitors went close in the 45th minute as Callum Hannah fired just wide of Tommy Taylor’s goal.

Thomson had a great chance to extend his sides lead in the 51st minute but Lawrence denied him brilliantly with a smart save.

Boro continued to dominate but couldn’t find that all-important final touch.

The travelling fans thought their side had won a penalty when Connor Smith was pushed to the ground but the referee waved the appeal away.

The visitors almost found a way back into the game in the 72nd minute when skipper Mike Woodhouse fired agonisingly wide of Taylor’s goal.

Walshaw added his side's third goal of the game as he fired home from close range following good build up play.

Substitute Ryan Blott went close for Boro in the 83rd minute but he put the ball wide of the post.
