Barrett was forced off inside the first 10 minutes of Boro's 3-1 win over Radcliffe Borough on Saturday with a recurrence of his ankle injury.

Boss Kelly is remaining hopeful Barrett will be available for action on Saturday.

"I'm hopeful that Josh will be ok for Saturday," said Kelly.

"He had his ankle stood on at Warrington and there was a bit of a recurrence on Saturday and he's had to come off.

"It will have hurt him to come off so early in the game and I'm sure he'll do everything to declare himself fit for Ashton.

"I will know more after training tonight (Tuesday) and Thursday."

Kelly has been impressed with Barrett's performances since he took over from previous boss John Deacey.

"Josh has been superb," added the Boro boss.

"He's so versatile as well, which obviously helps."
