Boro end winless run by crumbling Mintcakes

But, despite this barren run, Boro are still clinging on to an outside chance of sealing one of the division's play-off spots.

Boro stuck to the same formation at the 3-2 cup thriller at Clitheroe on Tuesday night, though assistant-boss Chris Bolder was recalled to the centre of the park.

There was no replication of the midweek outing though as the first half was a total non-event, with the action being limited the a handful of tame attacks.

Kendal's first opening set the tone, with Josh Draycott scuffing a weak drive straight at home keeper Joe Green.

Boro had the occasional peak, as James Cadman drilled wide and Billy Logan rolled straight into the arms of keeper Will Kitchen.

Cameron Murray also tricked his way into the box, but his centre was cleared before Benny Igiehon could react.

After a damp squib of an opening period, the second half started with a bang.

Igiehon won a free-kick on the right and when it was floated in Matty Turnbull rose majestically to power a header beyond Kitchen.

Boro almost made it two when the ball was rolled into the feet of Logan, he spun neatly in the box, but his strike was deflected up and over the bar.

The game began to heat up in the closing stages, Kendal's growing desperation being highlighted by a flourish of yellow cards brandished by referee Mr Heward.

But by this point, the tide of action had dried up and, completely un-threatened, Boro comfortably hung onto their one goal advantage.
