Boro grant Ryan’s wish

New boy Grant Ryan made the perfect start to his Scarborough Athletic career at Bedworth on Saturday.

Grant struck with his first touch in the 3-0 Evo-Stik South win to underline his intentions.

Ryan is now looking to maintain this run of form when Boro take the trip to Halesowen on Saturday.

“It just fell nicely for me and I hit it, I’m obviously pleased to start like that,” he said.

“The lads are top drawer as well. Sometimes you go into a changing room for the first time and there are a few grumbles, but this time everyone shook my hand.

“It helped that I knew Ryan Williams and Jason White from my time at Mansfield.”

It has been a long way back for the striker, who picked up a horrible knee injury in August 2012.

He added: “I had to have a full knee reconstruction, spending a lot of time at St George’s Park.

“My first game back was at Scarborough’s ground for Rainworth earlier this season, since then I have been playing at Shirebrook to bring my fitness levels back up.

“The gaffer (Rudy Funk) has said to me that we have a few games left and he wants me to score some goals.

“I am looking forward to the future after that. I want to work my way back through the leagues, hopefully I can do that with Boro.
