Scarborough Athletic’s pre-season schedule will see the club return to town with a double-header at Scarborough RUFC’s £4million Silver Royd HQ.
Rudy Funk’s Boro will tackle the Scarborough & District’s select XI on Saturday July 27, while Steve Brennan’s promotion-winning reserve side will play Scalby, who are celebrating their centenary season.
The two games will be the first football matches to be played at SRUFC’s impressive facility on Scalby Road, much to the delight of both Athletic and the Saturday League management committee.
Boro boss Funk said: “From where I’m standing it’s fantastic.
“We have to say a huge, huge thank you to Scarborough Rugby Club and to the Saturday League, it promises to be a massive day for football in Scarborough.
“It’s also great for Scalby Football Club to be celebrating their 100th season with this game and there will be some good local players on show.
“Scarborough Athletic are coming home and it will be good to be on home soil.”
Scarborough RUFC chief executive Graeme Young added: “We’re more than happy to host one-off, significant fixtures at Silver Royd, and this should be a good day for all.
“Especially for Scarborough Athletic. It’s nice for them to have a significant fixture back in Scarborough.
“We’re all local sportsmen trying to help improve sport in Scarborough and having this game shows that.”
Saturday League official Steve Adamson said: “We’re delighted to be playing Boro at Scarborough Rugby Club.
“Graeme Young has been a great ambassador for the rugby club and it’s great that they’re putting this game on.
“We’re hoping for a big turnout on the day as we’ll have two good games on and lots of other things going on.”
Entry is £4 or £2 for concessions, and there will also be a pre-match lunch served at 1.30pm, costing £8, which must be pre-booked. The first game kicks off at 1pm.
Boro’s new kit will also be on sale, while there will be a raffle on the day too.
