National League North outfit Boston United and Boro’s BetVictor NPL rivals Buxton and Grantham all submitted offers for the former Leeds United man - but he’s keen to stay at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

Dawson said: “I’ve spoken to Darren (Kelly) and discussed signing a contract to stay with Scarborough Athletic.

“Hopefully that can be done and dusted in time for Saturday’s game and we can move on and focus on doing well on the pitch.

“I’m happy at Scarborough. I’m playing regular football and feel I’m playing pretty well too, so there’s no real reason to change that at the moment for the sake of a few quid.

“It’s obviously nice to attract interest from other clubs, especially from a higher level, but I’m happy at Scarborough and want to stay.”

Dawson is excited by the potential of the club under new boss Darren Kelly after a 2-1 derby win against rivals Whitby Town in front of 1,358 at the Flamingo Land Stadium on Saturday.

“The backing from the stands has been great,” added the diminutive playmaker.

“It’s a lot easier to motivate yourself to play in front of a big crowd rather than a few hundred and the potential of Scarborough is there for everyone to see.”

Boss Kelly is delighted that Dawson is set to put pen to paper and stay with the club.

“I’m absolutely delighted that Chris wants to stay with Scarborough Athletic going forward,” said Kelly.

“He’s an exceptional player who has played very well all season and it was really important to keep him here.

“I spoke to him about what I want to do at Scarborough Athletic in the medium-to-long term and it’s a tick in the box to keep Chris here as part of my plans.”
