DARREN KELLY - Delighted with derby victory

I have to say the support in my first week or so in the job has been absolutely fantastic - it gave me goosebumps.

The amount of positive messages I’ve received has blown me away and the backing from the fans on Saturday was great.

The atmosphere in the ground was electric and it just showed the potential this great football club has.

I’d urge everyone who came to the Whitby Town game to keep coming to games and getting behind the lads because we could achieve so much together - the lads really did respond to that backing from the terraces as it makes such a big difference.

We thoroughly deserved the three points on Saturday against a good Whitby Town side who always come well prepared under Chris Hardy.

I couldn’t possibly single out any one individual player as the whole team performed superbly on the day.

There were a few key moments during the game that spring to mind though - notably Tommy Taylor’s superb double save in the first half that really did prove critical.

That’s why I believe he’s the best keeper in the division - although to be fair Whitby’s keeper Shane Bland made some fantastic stops at the other end.

They caused us a few problems late on when they switched formations and brought another striker on, but I felt we were good value for the points.

There’s lots of hard work to be done - I think I know what the club needs going forward to be successful and that will take time of course.

It’s going to be difficult to implement everything I want to straight away so we’ll need to be patient, but we’ll be working incredibly hard at the same time to make sure we get results.

That hard work starts with a difficult trip to Gainsborough Trinity this weekend against a decent side - again well marshalled by Curtis Woodhouse - another manager I know very well.

I played against Curtis and know he’ll always have any side he manages well and truly up for any game they go into - and Saturday will be no different.

I’m excited to get on the training field with the lads and coaches this week.

I have a very particular, meticulous and hands-on approach to coaching and it will take time to implement that - but I’m confident we can be successful going forward - especially if the backing from the supporters continues.
