DARREN KELLY: Testing times for everyone

This column is coming out at a very testing time for everyone - both in sport and in general.

The key message I’d like to highlight is that we all need to stick together in these incredibly testing times.

I saw a Scarborough Athletic supporter was in need of emergency supplies in York earlier this week and I was only too pleased to help out and drop off some shopping for her.

I’m a people person and to also know that this person was a supporter made it all the more important to me to help out.

That is an approach we’re also going to have to take in the community in the near future too.

Looking at things from a club perspective, this is going to be worrying times for everyone associated with Scarborough Athletic and non- league football in general.

There are conversations to be had with the football club about where we go from here.

We have contracted players and non-contracted players and staff.

I fall into the latter, I don’t have a contract with the club and a few others don’t and I imagine they won’t get paid in the near future.

With regards to the contracted players, the honest answer is I don’t know what will happen with them.

They will have contracts to the end of the season most likely, but this will need to be discussed also.

It seems a bit pointless at the time of going to press, but I was really pleased with our 1-0 victory at Basford United on Saturday, in what could prove to be our last game of the season should the authorities decide to void it and start again afresh with a new season once things have cleared up.

I think we were well placed to make a push for the play-offs given our recent form and it’s sad that we may not get a chance to see what may have been.

For the time being though, people’s health and well being is of the utmost importance and that has to be the priority.

Take care of each other and hopefully we’ll see you all again very soon.
