Dixon gutted to leave Boro

Work and family commitments have made it impossible for the former Blyth man to continue playing for the club, though he has said that he’d love to come back to Queensgate if his situation alters.

In recent weeks Dixon has been a key part of the Boro side that have began to haul themselves away from the wrong end of the Evo-Stik North table.

Dixon said: “I’m gutted to be leaving, since I’ve been here I’ve loved it.

“The lads have been brilliant, can’t ask for more from Paul Foot, Bryan Hughes, Chris Bolder, Steve Roberts and the rest of the team.

“In the first two months I didn’t really play because of personal reasons, Paul and Bryan kept that confidential, which I really appreciated.

“During that time the fans were patient with me and then since I came back in they have supported me 100%, you can’t ask for anything more than that.

“Paul and Bryan have left the door open and I’d love to come back if things change at work.

“At the moment work and my family do have to take priority, but I’ll obviously keep looking at things.”

Dixon also piled praise on Boro’s joint-managers and the rest of the squad, underlining that the play-offs are still an achievable aim.

He added: “They are two of the best gaffers I’ve played for. They know the game inside out and I know this team will come good.

“Results had been indifferent, but since I’ve come back we’ve turned things around a little bit.

“Ironically I wasn’t involved against Whitby, but I thought that was the best performance I’ve seen from us since I’ve returned.

“I don’t see why the club can’t push on towards promotion, despite where we are in the table at the moment.

“We still believe in the camp that the play-offs are achievable.

“With the quality we have and the fact that anyone in this league can beat anyone, I think it is realistic.

“We have the likes of Paul Robson, Joe Fox and Matty Bloor coming back from injury, which will only add to it.”
