After beating favourites Driffield in the Zonal play-off match the Pickering under-11s A team came up against local rivals Duncombe Park to decide who became league champions.

Pickering got off to a solid start at Forge Valley as the pairing of James Boyes (17) and Luke Shepherd put on a stand of 33 runs, then Max Harland (15) and skipper Tommy Wright (10) set Park a challenging score of 276-6.

Kit Saggers (3-14) and Will Hicks (2-15) were the pick of the Park bowlers.

The Helmsley-based side struggled early on as Boyes and Wright claimed a wicket each but a fine innings from Oliver Kelsey (19) had Pickering under pressure.

Matthew Ridley (2-7) and George Ridler then turned things around with the ball for Pickering and, along with some excellent fielding with five run-outs, saw Park end on 233-12 and Pickering won by 43 runs.

The trophies were presented to both teams by the League’s under-11s Results Secretary Wendy Burnhill, who was also thanks for her efforts during the season.

Flixton B have confirmed their promotion from division B of the under-15s league.

Pickering A finished their division A season with a two-run loss at Bridlington A.

Brid set a total of 119-3, spinner Brad Thompson (2-20) was Pikes’ best bowler.

Pickering’s reply started well through Ryan Taylor (25 ret) then Luke Balderson (24no) and Joe Harland (12) looked like getting the visitors home, but when Harland was out Brid managed to prevent Pickering getting three to win or two to tie by restricting them to just a single off the last ball.
