The race for the 2019/20 Division One title was looking set to go down to the wire until the coronavirus pandemic - and both sides will be looking to get the new campaign off to a solid start.

Edgehill have drafted in goalkeeper Callum Myers, Tyler Richardson, Joel Ramm and Ben David and boss Steve Clegg is hoping to get away to a strong start.

“Being the holders of the league title it would be lovely to defend it this season,” said Clegg.

“Kurtis Henderson making himself available again is also like another new signing.

“We’re at full strength and raring to go on Saturday, but we know that our best and longest rivalry is with West Pier and it’s always a good game.”

Pier boss Will Jenkinson is also looking forward to getting the new campaign under way.

“We have got a tough first game against Edgehill, it would be nice to get something from that but they are a very good team so we will have to be at it from the start,” said Jenkinson.

“West Pier always want to be competing for the top awards, last season was looking quite tasty before all this happened, there was three or four of us in the mix, I’m a bit disappointed the way it ended and that we didn’t get to complete the cups like the North Riding competitions did.

“We have signed Harry Ward, Benny Davis and Max McNiven, who are all really good young players, we’re hoping to have a good mix of experience and youth this season and bring them lads on.

“We have brought in three or four lads from the Reserves too in Aiden Crawford, Jack Scarborough, Harrie Leighton and Brandon Catherall.

“It’s nice to take some young lads into the first team from Reserves, where Johnny McGough is doing a great job.

“It could be fair to say we might be in a bit of transition this season, but hopefully we will still compete.

“There’s not that many teams in the league this year so we can’t afford many slip-ups.”

Elsewhere in Division One, Itis Itis Rovers host Newlands at the Flamingo Land Stadium and Scalby welcome Seamer.
