The young man was well known across the area, and many lined the streets to see his funeral procession pass along the seafront at Filey, stopping briefly at Filey Lifeboat Station.

As well as a volunteer Filey RNLI crewman, he played for Filey Town FC and Filey Cricket Club, and was a keen supporter of both clubs.

Filey Town FC First Team Manager Phillip Dickens said: “One of the players came up with the idea and a few people had been asking about buying a shirt and hanging it up in Luke’s memory.

“Luke was always there to watch and support us and cheer us on, and he would play when he was needed. He did enjoy it.”

The team’s kit has been sponsored by professional children’s football coaching club Mark Barber Soccer School.

An online fundraiser started in Luke’s memory has collected more thanr £7,000 towards the restoration of Filey Sports Club, where Luke loved spending time with his family and friends.
