Finance duo quit Boro

Two of Scarborough Athletic’s finance directors have quit the NCEl Premier club.

Stuart Keith and Brian Wilcox have stepped down from their roles with immediate effect, though not reason has been cited.

A statement read: “Following a series of email exchanges between members of the Finance and Audit Committee (FAC) and members of the board, we regret to announce that Stuart Keith and Brian Wilcox have tendered their resignation from that committee with immediate effect.

“Geoff Osguthorpe, the Club Treasurer, has stepped in to become the acting chair of FAC alongside Sandra Troughton. They wish to assure trust members and the broader fan base that the work of the board and its committee will be unaffected.

“You will appreciate that detailed financial matters must remain confidential. The issue centres on concerns Stuart and Brian have over budget control safeguards and the accountability of individual directors and budget holders to operate within those budgets; both in terms of revenues and expenditure.

“The next meeting of the board in early September is scheduled to be its first quarterly review where directors are due to discuss our performance in detail. FAC will use the intervening period to collate all the financial information, and will look into these particular issues in more detail. “The matter will be fully discussed at that meeting.

“While these departures are unfortunate, the directors are keen to reassure fans that the clubs Financial Procedures and Regulations do not appear to have been breached, and wish to assure fans and trust members that our improving financial position and bid to secure promotion have not been compromised by this regrettable action.

“Both Stuart and Brian have made a significant contribution to the turn-around in the fortunes of the club, and their advice has been welcomed in most cases, so it is with regret that we must accept their decision to return to the terraces.

“Thank you Stuart and Brian.”
