Scarborough Athletic joint-boss Paul Foot’s friendship with former teammate Simon Weaver is already coming to fruition.
Foot has kept in touch with his ex-central defensive partner at Scarborough FC, who holds the reins at Vanarama Conference North side Harrogate Town.
And after Foot and Bryan Hughes took control of Boro, Weaver has been keen to help out in any way he can.
The first sign of this has seen Harrogate Town midfielder Alex Metcalfe making the move to Queensgate in time for tomorrow’s Evo-Stik North outing at Ossett Albion.
A delighted Foot said: “I have always had a good relationship with Simon, we have kept in touch since our days at Scarborough FC.
“Since I took the joint-manager’s job alongside Bryan I have been doing a lot of talking to Simon about different things.
“He recommended Alex to us, everything I have heard about Alex has been very positive.
“Alex is somebody with a good attitude, a good work-rate and a player that likes to get forward.
“He will make our squad better, which is what you need.”
The addition of Metcalfe will increase the selection headaches, though Foot isn’t too concerned about that issue.
He added: “This is an important part of the season and it is important that nobody is able to relax.
“They all need to be looking over their shoulders, knowing that somebody could come in and replace them.
“Fortunately, the players we have all have great attitudes. They are winners, who live and breathe football.”
