Scarborough Athletic assistant-manager Darren France was upbeat after last night’s opening training session at Bishop Burton.
Over 20 players turned up and the management team of Rudy Funk, France and Denny Ingram are expecting a few more to the second run-out on Tuesday night.
Boro will have to work swiftly as their opening friendly takes place at Yorkshire Coast College against Eastfield next Saturday, though Ingram did firmly put them through their paces.
France, who has been with the club since the very beginning, said: “We had a good number down, the majority of them were first teamers.
“There were five or six new faces as well, all of these lads are quality players because we are strengthening right across the board.
“It does look very promising, though we will know a lot more about things next Tuesday because that will be a signing on night.
“A few of the other lads are away at the moment, so they will be coming down then.
“In this first session they were pushed hard and they worked hard. The good thing is the fact that they all looked sharp.
“The atmosphere was good as well. Last season we had a few lads looking over their shoulders at the new players coming in, this time there was none of that.”
