SCARBOROUGH Athletic boss Rudy Funk feels that tomorrow’s grand unveiling at the opening pre-season training session will stand as his first repayment to the Boro fans.
Funk was delighted by the faith shown to him by the supporters in the closing stages of last season, when Boro picked up seven points from the final eight matches.
The manager is now looking to turn on the style this season and he feels that he wil have a squad of players who will definitely make that happen.
Funk will bring together a number of last season’s lads with a host of new faces at the session, which takes place at Bishop Burton College, near Beverley, tomorrow.
He said: “I just can’t wait until Saturday comes.
“I don’t know how many we will have doen there, I do know that there will be a big number and each one of them will have plenty of quality.
“To me this is my first input as manager of Boro, and I think that the calibre of player on show at training will show everyone what I want to do.
“The end of last season just didn’t feel right for me.
“During that period the fans were very kind though. Saturday will be the first part of my repayment to them.
“Things are looking fantastic, I am looking forward to it, the coaching staff are looking forward to it and the players are all looking forward to it.”
Assistant manager Darren France is another excited man.
He said: “The one thing we have been lacking in recent seasons is competition for places and looking at things for this season we will have that throughout.
“We did well to win the NCEL first division, but then I think a few of those players hit a level.
“That won’t be the case this season, everyone will constantly be battling for their place in the side.
“The starting line-up will be strong and the back-up will be strong. Everyone will be wearing the badge with pride.”
