Scarborough Athletic may have crashed out of the NCE League Cup on Tuesday night at Thackley, but boss Rudy Funk still managed to find a few positives.
A young Boro side were swept aside by their Bradford-based hosts, who hit the back of the net six times without reply.
Funk may have been a little disappointed by the exit, but he was still upbeat at the final whistle.
“It was men against boys out there, but at times we still played well,” he said.
“Rory Skelton made some good saves in goal, while Dom Richardson and Harry Holden did alright.
“This is all a massive experience for those lads, they learned that if you don’t play to the best of your abilities you get punished.
“You can’t take anything away from Thackley, they were physical and strong and they caused us a lot of problems.
“Jermain Hollis had a couple of good chances to level the game up at 1-1, but it was one of those nights for us.”
Funk added: “I’d like to thank Jermain and Henry Sibenge for turning out for us, we also brought Andy Milne and Bryan Hughes on for the final few minutes, which will have been great for the younger lads.
“I was also very pleased to see Sam Denton back on the field for his first game since breaking his leg over the Christmas period.
“It is sad that we are out, but there were definitely some plusses.”
