Funk keen to maintain home form

Funk is getting the same vibe from the fans as when the club won the NCEL Premier two seasons ago, and he is taking delight in their fanatical approach.

Boro return to Queensgate on Saturday, 3pm, for a league game against lowly Prescot Cables - a side Boro beat in the FA Trophy last season.

This will follow on from Wednesday’s gruelling FA Cup battle at North Shields, which was concluded by a penalty shoot-out after two hours of football.

“Everybody has told me that they are fit and well, but that game on Wednesday will have taken a lot out of them,” said Funk.

“We are boosted by the fact that we have Steve Ridley back, Tom Burgin and Steve Burton are available as well, so there is plenty of depth.

“It is important that we keep our feet on the ground and enjoy our good run of form.

“Prescot are an experienced side though, who will come here, enjoy themselves and make things very hard for us.”

Funk added: “We do have a good record at home and the supporters are backing us by making the noise that helps push the players on.

“The players love the support, at the moment the vibe we are getting from the fans is similar to the one we had when we won the NCEL Premier.

“We just need to keep going because when we are playing well and the supporters are in good voice it is an amazing combination.”
