THERE were smiles all round at Staveley last night as Scarborough Athletic finished their season on a high with a 3-0 win.
Manager Rudy Funk had praise for all his players, the club’s board and volunteers, and the supporters, as a long yet pleasing season came to an end with the securing of third place in the NCEL Premier Division table.
“I demanded at least a top three finish this season and that is the outcome,” said a satisfied Funk.
“It’s been a great challenge for us all, but we must take the positives, and there have been many.
“The supporters have been amazing from start to finish and I have to thank the chairman and board for their wonderful support.
“We have a great core group of players, most of whom have committed to us for next season. We have a team that wants to challenge for honours, and next season we intend to do just that.”
Funk saw striker Ryan Blott score twice to become the league’s joint top scorer, and score his 150th goal for the club in the process, and skipper Tony Hackworth returned to the side to score the third.
Funk added: “It’s now time for a short rest before we start planning next season. I hope to see many fans at the presentation night on Saturday for a well-earned drink.”
