Scarborough’s Jonathan Greening has made a surprise switch to sign for NCEL Premier side Tadcaster Albion.

The former Manchester United and West Brom midfielder recently retired from the professional game, but last night he was unveiled by the Brewers, who currentloy lie towards the top of the NCEL Premier.

He will team up with brother Josh and former Boro men Denny Ingram and Andy Milne.

Tadcaster boss Paul Marshall said: “It’s unbelievable for the club.

“My son has known his daughter for some time but I had never spoken to him before yesterday.

“He’s got a Champions League winners’ medal and has played for some brilliant clubs. I can’t get the smile off my face.

“We had ex-Leeds United player Gary McAllister here before but that was more of a publicity stunt, this is for real. He trained with the lads last night and they were all so excited.

“He’ll have pressure on him from his brother because he’s been outstanding for us and he’ll have to prove he’s better than him,” Marshall said. “Josh has scored seven goals in his last two games for us.”
