The 19-year-old, who had previously spent time with Scarborough FC school of excellence, followed in the footsteps of dad Dave by joining Edgehill at the age of 16.

But having watched both Scarborough FC and the current Boro during his younger years, he was delighted to sign up for Bryan Hughes and Paul Foot’s side when they came calling.

Henderson’s opportunity arose when he caught the eye for the Saturday League rep side in a friendly clash with Boro.

And, having been brought into the side for the remaining pre-season, Henderson has hit the ground running.

“I wasn’t expecting anything like this to happen,” he said.

“To be given the chance to play for my hometown club is brilliant.”

“Things didn’t work out at Pickering, but I went back to Edgehill to try and improve myself further.

“I’ve loved it since I joined up with Scarborough. All the lads have been good, they’ve involved me, which is what you need.

“I’m just going to see how it goes, but it would be great to break into the team on a regular basis.”

Hughes added: “It was a no- brainer to bring Lloyd in.

“We are always keen to have a look, but you don’t know what you are going to see against local sides. Lloyd stood out a mile.

“He is athletic, assured and he has great pace. He will learn as well, especially from Paul, Leigh Franks, Nathan Peat and the others.”
