Hughes keen to get things going

Scarborough Athletic kick off their pre-season campaign over the next few games with a gruelling run of fixtures.

They begin tonight with the trip to Barton Town, 7.45pm, before an interesting game at Hull United’s Dene Park on Saturday at 3pm.

That will be followed on Wednesday night by another away game at Thackley.

The Hull United fixture should be one to whet the appetite though, as they are managed by former Hull City man Curtis Woodhouse and they have a number of Boro links in the shape of owner Jamie Waltham and midfielder Nick McNamara.

Joint-boss Bryan Hughes said: “There is nothing better in pre-season than game time, which is why we’ve put together this gruelling run of fixtures early on.

“The next three games will be hard for the lads, but it will be more games in the bank for them.

“We are looking forward to all of them because it will give the fans the chance to see our new signings Leigh Franks, Steve Mallory, Joel Dixon, Dom Rowe and Ben White, as well as that it will give the lads the chance to bed in, which is what pre-season is about.

“We are really looking forward to the Hull United game because there are a lot of connections between the clubs.

“Jamie Waltham has done a great job down there, I know their chairman Ian Ashbee and I regularly talk to Curtis Woodhouse.

“Hull United are a club we are looking to form links with because it would be good for both teams.

“We could dual register a few players and also give a few of our under-21s a run-out for them.”
