Selby stopper Josh Archer had the game of his life to keep the advantage down to just Benny Igiehon's solitary first-half goal.

But the positive signs are there for Boro, as they created enough chances to reach double figures, while at the other end, NCEL Division One side Selby rarely tested keeper Jordan Porter.

Boss Steve Kittrick fielded Adam Bolder for the first time in the midfield, he also had another look at new faces Ben Small, Liam Ormsby, Hassan Keita and Igiehon.

Striker Igiehon burst into the game, and he was unlucky not to break the deadlock after six minutes when Joe Lamplough sent him through on goal. The former Alfreton man shook off his defender with ease, but dragged his shot across goal and wide of the target.

Boro continued to press, with Craig Nelthorpe shuddering the Selby bar from distance, before Keita's drive wide of the target didn't match a trademark jinking run.

The goal had been coming and it arrived with 15 minutes on the clock when Igiehon rose well in the penalty area and directed a header home from close range.

The visitors could have easily been five clear by the break, but the found keeper Archer in unbelievable form.

After Keita went close on two further occasions, Archer saved superbly from Igiehon, Adam Bolder, Eddy Birch and then Paul Beesley, as Boro looked to turn the screw.

The effort from Beesley was his last action of the game, a pulled groin meaning that he had to be replaced by Carl Stewart.

Archer wasn't finished with his heroics, the keeper somehow pushing away Igiehon's toe poke from six yards just minutes into the second half.

Sub Chris Bolder, playing for the first time alongside brother Adam, flicked just wide with a header, before Igiehon was denied again by the brilliance of Archer.

A number of alterations were made in the closing stages, which took the glean off Boro's performance, as they became a little disjointed in the final minutes.

There was still time for David Brown to wriggle free inside the box, but he poked his effort high and wide.
