Scarborough Athletic’s joint manager Paul Foot has revealed his surprise at defender Dean Lisles’ decision to rejoin former club North Ferriby United.
Lisles has been a permanent fixture at the heart of Boro’s defence since joining from Foot’s former club United, but has decided to rejoin the Conference North oufit.
Foot said: “I’m surprised more than anything.
“Dean had some injury problems while he was there and ended up playing in their under-19s before signing for us.
“He has been absolutely fantastic for us since coming and he has really developed, so I am disappointed to be losing him.
“I have to stress, I am not disappointed with Dean. He has gone about this the right way and he has never made it a secret that he’d like to play at the highest level possible.
“The door isn’t closed on players who go about things in the right manner and Dean has certainly done that.
“Going forward, we want players who are going to buy into what me and Bryan (Hughes) are trying to build at Scarborough Athletic, and I won’t stand in the way of anyone who doesn’t want to.”
Foot admits the club are already talking to a number of potential replacements for Lisles.
“We’re in talks with a number of centre-backs already, we won’t name any names though as we like to do things the right way.
“We have a few defenders in mind and we are looking to bring them in as soon as possible so we can plan for next season.”
Foot is hoping that Lisles’ exit will be the solitary departure this summer and is looking forward to getting back into action next season.
He added: “I don’t think any more of the lads will be leaving the club any time soon, I’ll be surprised if they do.
“Me and Bryan are trying to build a squad here and everyone seems to be happy.”
