Kian Spence's future at Scarborough Athletic decided after York City trial

Former Middlesbrough man Spence was offered a deal by City after impressing enough during his trial spell with the club, which included an appearance in their pre-season friendly defeat against South Shields.

However, as Scarborough boss Darren Kelly explained, the plan was for City to loan Spence back to Scarborough for the season.

Difficulties loaning players to and from sides due to coronavirus restrictions ended City's interest in the deal and Spence has returned to Boro.

"Kian is back with us now after his trial at York City," said Kelly..

"They clearly see something in Kian to invite him over and then offer him a deal, but the complications surrounding loaning players and calling them back meant they decided against signing him.

"He's a cracking young player who I expect to come back hungry and ready to fight for his place in the side."
