Mathers and Palmer shine for Heslerton Hedgehogs

There was lots of excellent passing from both teams in a very close game.

Hedgehogs’ goals were scored by Jamie Moss, Oscar Young, John Mathers and Dylan Oxendale.

The Hedgehog goalkeepers of Eli Howden, Joey Palmer and Jamie Moss also managed to keep three clean-sheets between them.

Man of the match went to John Mathers with parents’ player going to Joey Palmer.

Jay Marsh produced a sublime strike as Filey Holt Under-Nines eased to victory over a spirited Seamer Spartans.

Filey ramped up the pressure in the first half.

Kobi Crawford supplied Logan Tuck, who rode two challenges before blasting his team into the lead.

Moments later Crawford’s cross from the right was met by Thomas Richardson, who sweetly swept home on the half volley to make it 2-0.

Seamer pulled one back on the counter, Filey keeper George Barber got his finger tips to a firm strike but couldn’t prevent the ball from crossing the line.

After the break Filey had numerous chances to extend their lead.

Oscar Jenninson’s piledriver went just over, Austin Thompson was denied by the keeper and Milly Craven was unlucky not to find the net.

Filey eventually got a third when Archie Barker slipped in Marsh, who fired an absolute howitzer into the top corner from the tightest of angles.

Filey ran out 3-1 winners with Marsh named man of the match.

Heslerton Under-10s Pirates hosted Seamer JFC in a great game where the visitors took a three-goal lead, but the hosts showed great character to come back through two goals from Malachey Kendrew.

The visitors goalkeeper produced two great saves from Jack Smith to deny the Pirates a draw. Kendrew was named man of the match.

The second game saw Seamer take victory despite another great team effort.

Robbie Maynard took man of match.

Heslerton Under-11s travelled to play West Pier Panthers.

Both teams battled hard on a very boggy pitch, however it was the away team who came out on top in the end.

Myles Johnson opened the scoring before Harry Thompson added a second.

In the second half the Panthers came out all guns blazing and hit two goals to draw level.

Heslerton steadied the ship and hit back with a hat-trick for Rio Howden including a spectacular long-range effort, Charlie Swiers and another for Johnson.

Man of the match went to the whole team.

Matters took an intriguing turn in the YMSV Under-15s third division as promotion hopefuls Heslerton went down 2-0 at rival contenders Wigginton Grasshoppers.

In an opening half of total dominance by Heslerton, the visitors could not make the breakthrough, captain Ollie Stanton and Tom Stockdale coming the closest for the Blues.

And in a game of two halves it was Wigginton that won the spoils in a somewhat smash and grab style.

Heslerton’s man of the match was Joe Richardson for his quality on the ball.
