The young centre-half, who has spent the last two seasons at Queensgate, will be in action for Billy Heath’s Villagers tonight when they tackle Hall Road Rangers in a pre-season friendly.

Boro joint-manager Paul Foot obviously wants to keep Middleton in the red of Scarborough, but he has underlined that the club do have cover in the shape of Steve Mallory.

Foot said: “We want Ben to stay with us, but obviously there is the opportunity to play in the Conference North, which we fully understand.

“He is playing in a game tonight against Hall Road, but they have a few other trialists in, so we’ll have to see how things go.

“Ben has come in and he has done superbly over the past few seasons, he is a great lad.

“We do have cover though if things work out for him at North Ferriby because Steve Mallory has been outstanding in training and he can play in that role.

“We are also actively looking for more players to boost our squad further.”
