West Pier Reserves charged to an 8-0 victory against Alma in their penultimate Sunday League second division game of the season.

Andy Goodwin’s men just had too much for the basement boys, Luke Midgley taking the game by the scruff of the neck with four goals.

Midgley showed his creative side in the first few minutes though when he sent Nick Bell through to open the scoring.

Bell then turned provider, crossing for Midgley, who volleyed his first of the game.

Rob Farnell’s influence then came to the fore when he twice released Midgley from midfield, the striker completing his hat-trick.

Andy Sheader played a one-two with Farnell and found the bottom corner to make it five, before another Midgley finish from Bell’s pass wrapped up the half’s scoring at 6-0.

Pier stepped off the gas a little in the second half, but they still added two more goals.

Bell completed his brace in the 70th minute, then sub Stu Butler picked out the bottom corner to make it eight.

Alma had a couple of late chances, but it was much too little too late.

Commercial were also in goalscoring form when they beat Tennyson Reserves 11-1.

Impressive midfielder Adam James opened the scoring for Commercial and after that they rain riot.

Rick Webster struck four, with fellow striker Mikey Barker adding three.

There were further goals from Jamie Fowler, Matt Matla and sub Shaun Bayes.
