Former Scarborough FC striker Mike Coulson is possibly due a small amount of fortune as he closes in on a return from his latest injury.
Since his departure from the McCain Stadium in 2006, Coulson’s spell in the game has been blighted by serious knee injuries.
He ruptured his cruciate knee ligaments twice in the same year after joining Barnsley, and then after a bright start to the current season with York City, Coulson picked up a similar injury.
The former Scarborough FC player of the year is now being put through his paces at Lilleshall rehab centre, before his eagerly anticipated return to League Two.
“Hopefully I’ve got all of these injuries out of the way so I can have a run of playing football,” he said.
“ I was hoping to get back to playing before the end of the season, but I’m not sure whether my knee is ready for full contact yet.
“I’ve got another year left on my contract, so hopefully I’ll be give chance to impress during that time.”
When Coulson gets back into the action he will be under the watchful eye of former Northern Ireland and Norwich boss Nigel Worthington, who has taken the reins at Bootham Crescent.
He added: “We didn’t expect Nigel to get the job because he has worked at such a high level.
“Graham Westley was odds on at the bookies, but Nigel came out of nowhere to get the job. I am looking forward to working with him, it should be an experience.”
Coulson recently took a break out of his busy rehab schedule to take in the NCEL derby between Scarborough Athletic and Pickering.
“I enjoyed it because it was a good game at a good level,” he said.
“To have players like Tony Hackworth and Bryan Hughes turning out for Scarborough Athletic is great for the club.
“I played alongside Bryan at Grimsby and he showed in that game that he has still definitely got it.
“Looking at that team I can see them really going places.”
Mike isn’t the only member of the Coulson family on the road to full fitness, with elder brother Alec also getting stuck into a new regime.
He added: “Alec is doing really well to lose that much weight. He is back playing football again and he is doing the Great North Run as well.
“My girlfriend is doing the Great North Run as well, so if I get chance I’ll probably have to go up and watch them.”
