Newlands return to top spot, Pier and Itis Itis earn District Cup wins

Ben Luntley and Dan Freer scored two goals apiece for the victors, with Kile Fields and man of the match Jack Hakings also on target, the latter firing home a wonder goal from 25 yards to celebrate his birthday in style.

Itis Itis Rovers are in the Scarborough FA District Cup final after they worked hard for a 4-2 home win against Seamer Sports at the Flamingo Land Stadium.

The home side roared into a three-goal lead after only half an hour, Luke Jones opening the scoring with a deflected shot and then Neil Forsyth added a second.

Jones made it 3-0 with a delicate chip over the onrushing Seamer keeper.

Kris Tate rolled his marker to give Seamer hope for the second half and the villagers piled on the pressure, but this hope was extinguished by a free-kick from Josh Young near the halfway line was fumbled in by the young Seamer gloveman.

Seamer refused to give in though and scored a second through Danny Glendinning but it was too little too late as Rovers secured a berth in the final.

Rovers boss Jordan Lee said: "Credit to Seamer, they kept battling till the final whistle, the conditions weren't the best, but having said that we played some very impressive football in the first half."

Seamer manager Joe Tiffany added:"This was a deserved result after their first half performance.

"Our midfield were excellent second half with Danny Glendinning man of the match for his non-stop hard work trying to get us back into the game."

West Pier battled back from a goal down to claim a 3-1 win at Division One rivals Hunmanby United to earn a spot in the semi-final against Edgehill.

Hunmanby went a goal ahead through Olly Milner in a game played in awful conditions at Sands Lane.

Pier found it difficult to break United down after the break, then a Sam Garnett cross into the penalty area found Jake Adams at the far post and he superbly volleyed home into the far corner.

The semi-final looked set for penalties, but then a long thrown into the area from Garnett found player-boss Will Jenkinson, who laid it off to Gary Thomas and he finished brilliantly with his left foot.

From the restart United went looking for a leveller, the ball broke to Martin Cooper just inside his own half and he volleyed a remarkable effort into the net to secure his team a place in the semi-final.

Jenkinson said: "You have got to feel for Hunmanby because they battled well in tough conditions but we never stopped going so massive credit to lads.

"Keeper Jordan Wood was outstanding in the first half so credit to him, and all the back four played well but credit to the lads all over the pitch."

United player-boss Leigh Franks said: "All our lads did well, fair play to Pier without being the better side they still found a way to win."
