Passing the key for Funk

Scarborough Athletic boss Rudy Funk has put his side’s amazing run down to the simplicity of playing good football.

Boro haven’t lost in the NCEL Premier since their defeat at Pickering Town in October, a run that spans 19 matches.

Athletic have also won their last five league fixtures, scoring 19 goals and conceding three in the process.

Funk is now just hoping that they can extend that run over the next eight matches, starting with tomorrow’s trip to Rotherham-based Parkgate.

He said: “We are looking forward to this game like we are looking forward to every game.

“Parkgate is a tough place to go, but if we keep going as we have then I don’t think we’ll be far away.

“We are on a good run at the moment, which is mainly down to confidence and good play.

“The players are enjoying the football that we are playing. Many find the long-ball stuff boring, I am the same.

“The passing game is perfect for our players because they are all involved and it keeps them happy.”
