Peat craving more success at Athletic

And the 32-year-old has vowed to add more success to what has been a glittering career in non-league football.

That spell in the game was capped last season when Peat netted one of the vital penalties in North Ferriby’s FA Trophy success at Wembley.

He had planned to retire after this dream-come-true appearance, but Boro have tempted his boots back out of the cupboard.

“I was going to retire, I’d had a couple of offers, but I thought that was that,” he said.

“Paul Foot rang me and asked me to come down and have a look. I loved it and the rest is history.

“There is no way I’d have come out of retirement to sit around in mid-table.

“I’ve had success all my career, at Lincoln, Harrogate, Ferriby and Hull, I want more.

“I know what it takes to win games and I’m hoping that will help us out this season.”

Having played in front of a crowd of over 15,000 at Wembley, Peat is very aware of the power of vocal fans.

He is calling for the Boro supporters to back him and his teammates this season.

He added: “The fans are vital for us, especially when we are having an off-day.

“We need to be up for every game and so do the fans. We want them to back us home and away, but we also need to show them what we can do.

“If we start well and get that backing then who knows what can happen this season?”
