Peterson back for Boro

Striker Alex Peterson will be back in a Scarborough Athletic shirt tomorrow night when the pre-season campaign gets underway at Barton Town.

The frontman, who was released by Doncaster Rovers at the beginning of the summer, spent a hugely successful loan spell at Queensgate midway through last season.

Now he has opted to meet Boro’s joint-bosses Bryan Hughes and Paul Foot at tomorrow’s outing, as well as playing a part in the fixture.

Hughes said: “Alex will be coming down for a chat and he will be playing some part, which we are delighted about.

“We have said all along that we have irons in the fire, but some of them just take a bit of time.

“Alex could go to a League Two club or a Conference club and wait on the bench for his chance.

“But he enjoyed his football down here last season and hopefully he’ll want to do that again.

“It is hard when you are released by a league club because there are so many lads in the same situation. Sometimes you have to drop out of the league to move back up again.

“If Alex comes on board that will give us such a physical presence in attack when the season starts. To have the likes of him, Tom Corner, Ryan Blott and Gary Bradshaw will be just fantastic.”

Meanwhile, another of Boro’s loan stars last season Joe Cracknell has gone on trial to Bradford City.

He had been training with Boro, but the former Hull City man has been given a break at the Bantams.

Hughes added: “We are delighted for Joe and we hope that he’ll be rewarded with a contract.

“The door will always be open to Joe Cracknell though because he is such a great lad.”
