PADDY Parke’s West Pier side came through their controversially re-arranged FA Sunday Cup quarter-final tie against Filey Flyers.
Pier, who led the first tie 3-2 with 82 minutes on the clock before the referee abandoned the clash after a Flyers player wouldn’t give his name, came through this tie with a 2-1 scoreline.
Tommy Barker was the chief instigator in Filey’s downfall as he was in superb form for the entire 90 minutes.
They were ahead after 20 minutes when Mikey Hartnett’s cross-cum-shot hit the post and rebounded out to Barker, who was in the right spot at the right time to tap home.
Pier doubled their lead on the hour mark when Barker headed Darren Swinger’s cross past the Flyers keeper.
Flyers pulled one back but it wasn’t enough to get them back into the game and Pier saw the game out to collect the win and book their place in the semi-finals against promoted second division side Staxton.
