Pier set to tackle Fisherman in cup clash

Pier have made a strong start to the season, winning all four of their league games, but the cup clash Whitby could well be a tricky one for Andrew Spivey’s troops as they only edged a 1-0 win at home to the Fishermen last month.

The Whitby side were given a bye through to the second round, while Pier earned their place in the draw with a 2-0 win at Dalton Athletic.

Edgehill have been handed a trip to Teesside League second division basement club Kader as a reward for their 9-0 hammering of Carperby Rovers in the first round.

Although Kader have yet to win a game in the league this season, they managed to earn a fine 6-3 win at Stockton Churches Portrack in the first round so Edgehill chief Steven Clegg will be warning his sides against complacency.

Second division outfit Athletico2B are at home to York League side Ouseburn United in the second round.

Nick David’s team won 4-2 at Easingwold Town Reserves in the first round, and with United struggling at the foot of the second division in the York League the Cats will fancy their chances of moving through.

Cayton Corinthians have also been handed home advantage, with Cargo Fleet AFC the visitors to Station Road next month.

Fleet, who are mid-table in division two of the Teesside League, romped to an 8-2 away win against AFC Hillside in the first round, so Shaun Rennison’s side, whose form has dipped in recent weeks in the second division, will be hoping for better fortunes in the cup after having been given a bye through the first round.

Newlands Park are at home to Lingdale United in their first North Riding cup game of the season after having also been given a bye.

The defending Scarborough League champions have been ravaged by injuries this season, so they will be hopeful that some of the absentees return in time for the cup clash with the Eskvale & Cleveland League division one leaders, who eased to a 9-0 win in the previous round against third division Ayton Reserves.

Seamer Sports also enter the competition with a tough cup-tie, as they make the trip north to face Richmond Mavericks Reserves.

The Mavericks, who play in the Wensleydale Creamery League, smashed league rivals Hawes United on the road in the first round, so Paddy Parke’s village team will need to be on top form to progress.
