RUDY FUNK: Away-day form overshadowing our first-class home work

There is no secret about the fact that our away form at present isn’t the best.

Tuesday night’s defeat at Spennymoor Town underlined this.

In the first half we were good, possibly as good as it gets.

But in the second half we did our usual trick of losing a bit of concentration and that cost us.

Maybe at home our fans would have given us that extra cheer to get us through to pick up a result.

I can’t defend our away record at the moment, but we are working hard on things and we are looking to put things right on our travels.

There are maybe one or two moments where we have taken our eye off the ball, though that isn’t helped by the fact that we have been stretched by injuries to our defence.

Jimmy Beadle has come in and done a job, but he is a defender and he has a different outlook on the game when you compare him to an out-and-out defender.

Everyone has been chipping away and having a pop at us as a group, but if you look at it we are playing some fantastic sides.

Take Spennymoor for example. They have a number of players on contract - something I couldn’t even dream about at the moment.

My players just come down, play their games and they are all proud to be a part of it.

I am still happy with our start to the season, if anyone had offered me this start then I would have definitely accepted it.
