RUDY FUNK: Cracknell stars in Sutton win

There were plenty of positives to come out of Saturday’s home win against Sutton Coldfield.

The biggest for me was the performance of our new keeper Joe Cracknell.

Jason White has been tremendous for us this season, but he picked up a nasty ankle injury so we had to replace him with Joe, who is very well thought of by his club Hull City.

Joe made a very good double-save and settled in nicely during what was a good all-round performance by the team.

Everybody has been talking about the first-half display, but it was the character in the second half that impressed me.

We defended resolutely when we had to defend, which hugely impressed me because we had been conceding a lot of goals in previous weeks.

All of the lads worked their socks off right across the pitch and that resulted in us picking up a deserved three points.

We then move on to Saturday’s FA Trophy game at Stocksbridge, which just shows how blessed we are as a club now.

To be playing in the first round of the FA Trophy in comparison to the scrapping round in the NCE League Cup last season just shows the progression we have made.

I can’t wait for this game and hopefully Lady Luck will be on our side then it will provide the financial people with a bit of a boost.

One of the biggest talking points in Evo-Stik football is the pitch at Stocksbridge.

It is a beautiful, flat and well-maintained surface, which the lads will be looking forward to turning out on.

This will suit us because we are a team that likes to pass the ball, though we have already learned that you have to go out there and mix it as well.

On Saturday we had hearts bigger than our chests, we have to go out there and produce that character once again.
