SATURDAY DIVISION 1: Ten-man Newlands claim win at Seamer

Dan Freer volleyed the visitors in front on 15 minutes after keeper Darrell Lewis parried the ball back out to him.

Five minutes later Drew McCoubrey's good finish doubled the lead for the depleted away side and the same player struck again after some intricate build-up play on 75 minutes to secure the points.

Centre-back Mike McNaughton pulled a goal back for the hosts five minutes later, capping a man-of-the-match display by the former Scarborough FC defender.

Five minutes from time Jack Ramos completed the scoring for Newlands with a neat finish after more good build-up play.

Geoff Nock said: "This was a superb effort by all 10 of my players, we had 10 players missing through weddings and other commitments, so to get a win despite being a man down was oustanding.

"While the man-of-the-match should be shared by the whole team, Chris Dove, making a rare appearance, was outstanding throughout."

Westover Wasps climbed out of the relegation zone with a shock 4-2 home win against Filey Town.

The visitors played the first half with only 10 men and in a dour first half Wasps took the lead through a fine strike from Dan Thomas.

Town gained an extra player after the interval, but Wasps were then reduced to 10 when veteran Aaron Hepworth was sent off for two bookable offences and the visitors swiftly levelled.

Right-back Mark Bean restored Westover's lead with a powerful header from a corner but Filey equalised again and it looked like their man advantage would pay off but the home side had other ideas, Noah Young's first goal for Wasps and a second from Thomas wrapping up a victory against the odds.

Young and Thomas were named as the star men for Westover while keeper James Burrows also made some crucial saves for the home side.

Leaders West Pier bounced back from their NRCFA Cup exit with a 4-1 home win against relegation battlers Whitby Fishermen.

Martin Cooper nodded in the opener from close-range for Pier after only 12 minutes and Sam Garnett smashed in a superb 30-yard shot to put the hosts in charge by the break, the dismissal of Fishermen keeper Paul Cull for a foul on Garnett just outside the penalty area a few minutes before the break making it even tougher for the away side.

Cooper hit a third from the penalty spot on 55 minutes after a foul on Sean Exley, and a long-range strike from Jamie Bradshaw made it 4-0 to Pier on 70 minutes, Ian Smith pulling a deserved goal back for the Whitby side late on.

Niall Gibb and Jimmy Beadle were named as the joint men of the match for Pier.

Edgehill maintained their own title ambitions with a 6-1 home win against basement club Cayton Corinthians, who look doomed to the drop.

The visitors opened the scoring when good work from Sean Kelly saw the ball rebound into the net off Edgehill stand-in keeper Luke Jones.

Dean Craig levelled for Edgehill on 22 minutes, Jackson Jowett putting them ahead two minutes later and Jamie Patterson adding a third just before the interval.

Man of the match Craig completed his hat-trick and sealed the win with goals in the 46th and 47th minutes, Patterson making it 6-0 in the 56th minute.

While Craig was the star man Edgehill boss Steve Clegg was full of praise for Patterson in his first full game after a long spell out through a serious leg injury.
